Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has affirmed that Ghana is ready for the challenge of facing England in their second Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and he believes the Black Stars can go toe to toe with one of the tournament favourites.
At his pre-match press conference, Queiroz acknowledged England’s quality, Premier League experience, and intensity, but said Ghana have a plan to manage their strengths. He also backed his team strongly, saying, “They have three lions, but we have 33 million lions.”

The match also has personal significance for Queiroz, who faced England while coaching Iran at the 2022 World Cup and lost 6-2. He said that game taught him important lessons, adding, “In football, we never lose. We win, or we learn.”
Ghana will look to build on their strong start when they face England on Tuesday, June 23, at Boston Stadium.
