Land preparation has begun for the construction and equipping of a modern 400-bed Mother and Child Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which will replace the existing dilapidated Maternity Unit.

The project forms part of President Mahama’s renewed investment in major, world-class health infrastructure, following his recent commitment to the facility during the commissioning of the upgraded Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Korle Bu.
The new facility will provide specialised services and departments, including:

- Labour and Delivery Suites
- Operating Theatres
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- High Dependency Unit (HDU)
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technology Centre
- Antenatal and Postnatal Clinics
- Fertility and Reproductive Health Clinics
- Breastfeeding and Family Planning Units
- Emergency Obstetric Care Unit
- Diagnostic Imaging Department
- Laboratory and Blood Bank Facilities
- Pharmacy Department
- Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD)
- Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Units
- Teaching, Research and Conference Facilities
