In a reference to the current global economic down turn President John Dramani Mahama touts Ghana’s significantly quick economic turnaround following measures implemented by his administration to restore macroeconomic stability.
Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly on Thursday September 24, 2026, President Mahama demanded that economic prosperity anywhere must translate into meaningful and improved living standards of everyday people. He said disciplined governance, fiscal prudence and his government’s fight against corruption had helped restore economic growth, reduced inflation, stabilised the national currency and lowered the country’s public debt burden adding that, the recovery had been independently validated by multilateral financial institutions and international credit rating agencies.
“Indeed, some circles describe it as the Ghanaian miracle,” he said.

President Mahama said the government’s focus however, goes beyond improving macroeconomic indicators, stressing that economic growth must translate into better living conditions.
“But, Mr President, macroeconomic indicators mean little if they do not translate into real improvements in our people’s daily lives. Economic growth and progress must have a human face,” he said.
According to the President, government is therefore pursuing an aggressive infrastructure programme under the Big Push initiative to construct roads, expand digital connectivity and provide schools and health facilities across the country.
