The District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti Region, Abubakar Sedik, has died after a brief illness.
Mr. Sedik died on Sunday evening, September 20, 2026, shortly after returning to Mankranso from a meeting with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, in Kumasi.
The Minister was in the Ashanti Regional capital to engage stakeholders on efforts to complete the Kejetia Phase Two Redevelopment project.
According to reports, the DCE fell ill after returning from the meeting but his condition reportedly deteriorated, leading to his death.
The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly confirmed his passing in a social media post, saying:
“Rest well, Hon. Abubakar Sedik. You served your people with a good heart.”
His death comes barely a week after the district attracted public attention over allegations surrounding a proposed demolition of a school facility at Mankranso.

Mr. Sedik had been accused of spearheading an attempt to demolish the facility to make way for the construction of a 24-hour economy market.
He denied the allegation.
Before his appointment as DCE, Abubakar Sedik was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ahafo Ano South West constituency in the 2024 general elections.
The Ashanti Regional Minister has expressed sadness over the sudden death, describing it as a loss to the late DCE’s family, the people of Ahafo Ano South West, his colleagues, the Ashanti Region and the government.
The Minister extended condolences to the bereaved family, loved ones, colleagues and constituents of the late DCE and prayed for strength and comfort for them during the difficult period.
He also prayed for the peaceful repose of Mr. Sedik’s soul.
“Rest well, Hon. DCE,” the Regional Minister said.
