President John Dramani Mahama has begun his engagements on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, holding discussions with Alex Soros, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Open Society Foundation (OSF)
The meeting focused on opportunities for collaboration and support for efforts to strengthen ECOWAS integration. Mr Soros, an investor and philanthropist who has previously engaged with President Mahama, expressed interest in exploring partnerships with the regional bloc.

The engagement also set the stage for a presidential roundtable being coordinated by the Open Society Foundation, bringing together a select group of presidents and CEOs of major global foundations and organisations.
Participants are expected to include representatives of the Gates, Ford, Hewlett Packard, Hilton, Rockefeller, Humanity United, Anglo American, Chandler and UBS Optimus foundations, among others.
The roundtable is expected to provide an opportunity for President Mahama to engage key global philanthropic institutions on partnerships and support for development and regional integration priorities.
