The University for Development Studies (UDS) has successfully defended its African University football title after defeating Julius Nyerere University of Guinea 2–1 in a dramatic final of the 12th All-Africa University Games in Cairo, Egypt.
The victory makes UDS the first university in the history of African university football to win the continental championship in successive editions.
The defending champions went into the final seeking to retain the title they won in the previous edition, but faced a determined Julius Nyerere University side in a closely contested encounter.
According to match updates published by the UDS Public Affairs Directorate, the first half ended goalless, with neither side able to break the deadlock.
UDS returned from the break with greater attacking intent and took the lead in the 59th minute when Raphui found the back of the net to make it 1–0.

Julius Nyerere University responded strongly and restored parity in the 70th minute, setting up a tense finish to the encounter. With the match heading into extra time, UDS eventually produced the decisive moment.
In the second half of extra time, with five minutes added, Ezedeen Alhassan scored to restore UDS’s lead and secure a 2–1 victory.
The result crowns UDS back-to-back champions of African university football and marks a historic achievement for the university and Ghana on the continental university sports stage.
The triumph also extends UDS’s remarkable run in the competition, following its success in the previous edition of the All-Africa University Games.
