The wife of former National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Chief Executive Officer, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has launched an urgent legal battle to secure his release after his dramatic arrest at the Accra International Airport while preparing to travel to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.

Hajia Faiza Seidu Wuni on Monday, July, 2026, filed a habeas corpus application at the High Court in Accra, asking the court to compel the Director of the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) and the Attorney-General to produce her husband and explain why he remains in detention.

According to her affidavit, Abdul-Wahab was arrested by armed officers believed to be from the BNI on July 4, moments before boarding his flight to London despite having a High Court order permitting him to travel.

The former NAFCO CEO, who is standing trial on charges of stealing and causing financial loss to the state, had secured court approval on June 29, 2026 to seek treatment for a worsening eye condition. The order allowed him to leave Ghana by July 4, 2026 and return by July 14, 2026.

His wife said he had successfully completed all immigration and security checks before he was suddenly intercepted and taken away without any explanation.

She further alleged that Abdul-Wahab was denied the opportunity to speak to his lawyer following the arrest. After hours of searching, the family later discovered he was being held at the BNI headquarters in Ridge, Accra.

Hajia Faiza also claimed she was prevented from delivering food to her husband, while lawyers who later attempted to meet him were turned away because they had not received the required clearance.

The arrest has attracted public attention after Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai disclosed in a Facebook post that Abdul-Wahab was detained over an alleged attempt to withdraw money from a frozen Republic Bank account shortly before his planned trip. He also indicated that the Attorney-General’s office intends to challenge the court order that permitted the former NAFCO boss to travel abroad.

However, Abdul-Wahab’s wife has dismissed the allegation, insisting her husband committed no wrongdoing. She described the claim as unfounded and challenged the state to provide evidence to support it.

In her application, she argues that her husband’s continued detention violates his constitutional rights to personal liberty and legal representation. She is therefore asking the High Court to order the state to produce him so the legality of his detention can be determined.

The Bureau of National Intelligence and the Attorney-General’s office are yet to respond formally to the application. The matter is now before the High Court for determination.
