Zoomlion Ghana Limited has begun a self-funded disinfection and disinfestation exercise across markets and sanitary facilities in the Greater Accra Region following the June 29 floods.

The exercise is aimed at reducing the risk of disease outbreaks by controlling mosquitoes, flies and other disease-causing microorganisms that may thrive in flood-affected areas.

The June 29 floods affected several communities in parts of Ghana, leaving homes, businesses and public spaces inundated and raising concerns over sanitation and public health risks in affected areas.

Speaking to Citi  News on Friday, August 21, Zoomlion’s Greater Accra Regional Manager, Ricky Anokye Frempong, said the company decided to take up the exercise as part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment to supporting communities.

“Greater Accra has 29 MMDAs, and we are taking it upon ourselves to disinfect every place to help contain the microorganisms that, in a way, spread as a result of the flood,” he said.

The exercise will target markets, sanitary facilities and other public spaces considered vulnerable to the spread of disease.

Frempong said the initiative is intended to complement the efforts of local authorities in maintaining sanitation and protecting public health in the aftermath of the floods.
