The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has intensified its crackdown on illegal digital lending, warning the public against engaging with 20 unlicensed digital credit service providers operating in the country.
It has therefore and directed regulated financial institutions not to facilitate their activities.
In a public notice issued on Monday 3, 2026, the central bank said the entities continue to offer digital loans to Ghanaians through mobile applications and other digital platforms without the required licence or authorisation.
The practice it says, is in breach of the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana, which took effect in September 2025.
