Mr Bagbin said Parliament must go beyond passing laws and ensure proper oversight of  political financing and public institutions.

He highlighted steps taken by Ghana’s Parliament, including strengthening oversight structures, to promote transparency and ethical conduct.

The Speaker called for stronger cooperation among African countries to improve governance and build public trust in democratic institutions.

“Parliament has a critical role in safeguarding democratic integrity and ensuring accountability in political financing. MPs have been given the power to ensure that the laws we pass, calling on people to pay taxes, and the people obey and pay the taxes, we generate the revenue and put in BoG.

“The people expect us to hold that bank accountable. There’s no institution of governance that can say they are independent of Parliament,” he said.
