The 2026 NBA offseason has taken a dramatic turn, with one of the league’s biggest stars set to begin a new chapter.

According to ESPN, LeBron James will leave the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the 2026-27 season. Hours before NBA free agency officially opened on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET, James’ longtime agent, Rich Paul, informed the Lakers that the four-time NBA champion intends to play elsewhere next season.

James’ departure ends a remarkable stint in Los Angeles and immediately reshapes the NBA landscape, with speculation already intensifying over his next destination.

Among the teams most strongly linked with the 41-year-old is the Golden State Warriors, who have emerged as a serious contender to land the future Hall of Famer. Those rumors gained further momentum after Warriors forward Draymond Green declined his $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 campaign on Monday, a move widely viewed as creating additional salary-cap flexibility.

Golden State is also reportedly exploring a blockbuster trade for Anthony Davis from the Washington Wizards. If completed alongside a deal for James, the Warriors could assemble a star-studded lineup featuring Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Draymond Green.

Several financial and roster hurdles remain before such a scenario becomes reality, including the possibility of moving Jimmy Butler’s $56.8 million expiring contract to facilitate a trade for Davis. However, Green’s contract decision is seen as one of the key steps toward making the ambitious plan feasible.

Meanwhile, another major move has already shaken the league, with Ja Morant reportedly being traded by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Portland Trail Blazers in a blockbuster deal. The trade marks the end of Morant’s tenure in Memphis and gives Portland a new franchise cornerstone as the Trail Blazers look to accelerate their rebuild around one of the NBA’s most explosive point guards.

With LeBron James entering free agency, Anthony Davis potentially on the move, and Ja Morant heading to Portland, the 2026 offseason is quickly developing into one of the most eventful in recent NBA history.
