The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has moved to clarify concerns raised by some newly promoted teachers who reported being directed to submit application letters, alongside their promotion letters and other documents, for the processing of salary adjustments reflecting their new ranks.
In a statement addressing the matter, GES Management explained that it had received these concerns from affected teachers, prompting the need for immediate clarification on the standard process governing salary adjustments following promotion.
According to GES, teachers who are promoted to new ranks are usually placed automatically on the appropriate salary scale to reflect their new positions, without requiring any additional documentation beyond what has already been processed through the promotion exercise itself.
“Teachers who are promoted to new ranks are usually placed automatically on the appropriate salary scale to reflect the new ranks. This existing practice has not changed.”Professor Ernest Kofi Davis,Director-General of the Ghana Education Service

Management was clear that this longstanding practice remains unchanged, reinforcing that the automatic placement system continues to apply as it has previously, without any new requirement for teachers to submit application letters or supporting documents to trigger their salary adjustment.
Teachers Urged to Disregard Document Requests
Considering this clarification, GES directed affected teachers to ignore any requests to submit documents for the purpose of salary adjustments, effectively dismissing the legitimacy of the directive some teachers had reportedly received from certain regional or district offices.
“Teachers are, therefore, to ignore the request to submit any documents for salary adjustments.”Professor Ernest Kofi Davis,Director-General of the Ghana Education Service
This directive from Management serves as a direct instruction to teachers who may have already begun compiling or submitting the requested materials, signalling that such submissions are unnecessary and inconsistent with the Service’s established salary adjustment procedures.

Management Calls for Calm Amid Ongoing Engagement
GES acknowledged that the request appeared to have originated from a limited number of regions and districts, rather than reflecting a nationwide directive from central Management.
The Service called for calm among teachers as it engages these specific regions and districts allegedly responsible for issuing the requests, suggesting that the matter is being addressed directly with the affected local offices rather than treated as a systemic issue across the entire Service.
This measured response indicates that GES is treating the situation as a localized administrative inconsistency requiring correction, rather than a deliberate change in policy that would necessitate a broader procedural overhaul.

The clarification comes amid what appears to be growing concern that newly promoted teachers may have been inconvenienced or misled by the reported requests for additional documentation, particularly given that such requests contradict the Service’s established automatic placement system for salary adjustments following promotion.
By publicly addressing the issue and providing clear guidance, GES appears keen to prevent further confusion or unnecessary administrative burden on teachers who have already navigated the promotion process, ensuring that their salary adjustments proceed smoothly without additional bureaucratic steps that fall outside standard practice.
Broader Pattern of Administrative Clarifications
The statement adds to a series of recent clarifications issued by GES Management addressing various administrative concerns raised by teachers and the public.
Reflecting an ongoing effort by the Service to maintain clear communication channels and promptly correct misinformation or inconsistent practices that may emerge at the regional or district level.

With Management now actively engaging the specific regions and districts identified as sources of the erroneous requests.
Attention turns to how quickly this engagement resolves the underlying inconsistency, ensuring that affected teachers can proceed with confidence that their salary adjustments will be processed automatically, in line with the Service’s established and unchanged practice, without further complications.
