The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) has directed the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to immediately reverse its decision to suspend the employment contracts of all staff, describing the directive as unacceptable under the current circumstances.
The Ministry’s intervention follows a circular issued by GDCL management announcing the temporary suspension of employment contracts for all staff, pending what it described as a comprehensive assessment of the Centre.

In an official statement issued by Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI), they acknowledged receipt of the circular but stated that the decision would not stand.
Ministry Rejects GDCL Directive
According to the Ministry, it has taken a “very strong view” of the directive issued by GDCL management and has instructed the Centre to immediately rescind the decision.
The Ministry further directed all employees of Ghana Digital Centres Limited to disregard the suspension notice, assuring them that the Ministry does not support the action taken by management.
The intervention effectively halts the implementation of the employment suspension while government engages with the Centre’s leadership over the matter.
Decision Comes After Severe Flood Damage
The Ministry explained that the timing of the suspension made the decision particularly troubling, considering that many GDCL employees had already been personally affected by the devastating floods that struck parts of the country on June 29.
Several businesses operating within the Ghana Digital Centre are also reported to have suffered varying degrees of damage following the flooding, disrupting operations and affecting livelihoods.
The Ministry emphasized that this was a period when staff required support rather than uncertainty regarding their employment.

Minister Personally Assessed Damage
The decision came shortly after the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George visited the Ghana Digital Centre on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, to inspect the extent of the destruction caused by the floods.
According to the Ministry, the visit enabled the Minister to personally assess the impact of the disaster on both the Centre and the numerous businesses operating from the facility.
The inspection formed part of government’s broader efforts to evaluate the damage and determine appropriate interventions to support affected institutions and businesses.
GDCL Management Summoned
As part of efforts to resolve the matter, the Ministry has invited the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited to a meeting scheduled for today July 2, 2026.
The meeting is expected to provide management with the opportunity to explain the rationale behind the suspension directive and discuss the way forward following the flood-related disruptions.
Government is also expected to assess the operational challenges facing the Centre and explore measures that will allow business activities to resume without jeopardising the welfare of employees.
Staff Asked to Ignore Suspension Notice
Pending the outcome of discussions with management, the Ministry has made it clear that all GDCL employees should continue to disregard the suspension circular.
The directive offers temporary relief to workers who were facing uncertainty after receiving notice that their employment contracts had been suspended with immediate effect.
The Ministry’s swift intervention signals government’s commitment to protecting public sector workers and ensuring that decisions affecting employees are handled with appropriate oversight, particularly during periods of national emergency.
