The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Digital Center, Mr. Dzifa Gunu, has called for deliberate investment in systems and infrastructure to position the Volta Region as a competitive player in Ghana’s technology and innovation space.
Speaking at the launch of the second edition of the Volta Tech and Innovation Summit (VTIS) in Ho on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Mr. Gunu said government remains committed to partnering digital organizations to create opportunities for young people and to bridge the gap between education, skills training and employment.
“Technology is no longer the future, it is the present. What we need in regions like Volta is the system to train our people, employ them, and connect them to global opportunities,” he said.
The summit, organized by Confluence, a digital innovation organization based in the Volta and Greater Accra regions, was held on the theme “Build the System, Own the Future”.
It brought together policymakers, entrepreneurs, academia, media practitioners and members of the public.
Co-Founder of Confluence, Courage Asase, said VTIS is part of a long-term push for systems change in the region.
Drawing lessons from India, he said the goal is to create pathways that enable people to be educated and develop their talents in the Volta Region while competing for opportunities globally.
“The goal is to ensure that a person’s immediate environment does not determine the limits of their potential, “We need global innovation structures that can connect local talent to the world stage.” Mr. Asase.
Chief Executive Officer of the Business Outsourcing Services Association of Ghana, BOSAG, Mr. David Gowu, said making the Volta Region competitive for investment requires urgent attention to infrastructure, education and investment facilitation.
Comparing commercial space costs to Accra where businesses pay between $30 and $35 per square metre, he said the region must offer more competitive conditions.

He called for the establishment of a regional investment desk to work with the private sector, and cited transportation, reliable internet, power and ecotourism as key drivers of growth.
BOSAG pledged to partner with VTIS on training and employment opportunities for young people.
Speaking on behalf of the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Bruno Foli urged young innovators to develop practical solutions to challenges in agriculture, business and community life.
In a statement read on his behalf, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, welcomed the initiative and reiterated government’s commitment to partner digital organizations to create jobs for the youth.
The Volta Regional Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association, Lambert Atsivor, also pledged the association’s support, describing the media as a proud partner of initiatives that bring development and employment to young people.
John Paul Semavor, CEO of Volta Peak Cabins, pledged 100% support for the VTIS vision, saying people with ties to the region must contribute to its growth.
Associate Co-Founder of Confluence, Elvis Kofi Bomassa, said the two-day summit will focus on bridging education, youth empowerment, skills training and employment in the tech space.
Organizers say the launch marks the beginning of a broader effort to build a dedicated community of innovators in the Volta Region.
“Today was about connecting people who are ready to shape the future of technology and drive sustainable impact. This is just the beginning,” a statement from Confluence said after the event.
The Volta Tech and Innovation Summit is scheduled for the first week of October 2026 and will run for two days in Ho.
