Afenyo-Markin condemns EOCO over re-arrest of former NAFCO CEO and wife

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has strongly criticised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over the re-arrest and continued detention of former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, May 6, 2026, Afenyo-Markin described EOCO’s actions as “extra-judicial harassment” and called for the immediate release of the couple.

According to him, the arrest followed the withdrawal of charges against the accused persons by the Attorney-General, after what he characterised as a weak prosecution case. He alleged that earlier attempts by the prosecution to introduce fresh witness statements without the court’s approval were rejected, prompting the decision to discontinue the case.

The Minority Leader argued that EOCO’s decision to re-arrest the couple shortly after the charges were dropped raises serious concerns about due process and abuse of power.
He further claimed that the accused persons have since been denied bail and access to legal counsel, despite previously being granted bail by the court.

Afenyo-Markin also accused the Attorney-General and the government of using state institutions as tools for political persecution, particularly targeting members of the opposition under the guise of anti-corruption efforts. He described the development as “shameful” and “reprehensible”, warning that such actions undermine Ghana’s democratic credentials.

The Minority Leader urged EOCO’s leadership, headed by Raymond Archer, to adhere strictly to due process and the rule of law in the discharge of its mandate.

He concluded by calling on EOCO and the Attorney-General to immediately release Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba and his wife, insisting that “this impunity must stop”.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
