The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has firmly denied allegations that the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) is being sold to businessman Ibrahim Mahama, describing the claims as false, misleading and devoid of any factual basis.
In a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of GIADEC, Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah and issued on Monday, July 27, GIADEC said the claims, which have been circulating in the public domain and were attributed to some individuals claiming to be VALCO staff led by Samuel Watchman Agyeman, have no factual basis.
The Corporation stated that neither Ibrahim Mahama nor any company linked to him has expressed interest in the ongoing process to secure a strategic equity partner for the retooling and modernisation of VALCO.
GIADEC stressed that the government remains committed to a transparent process aimed at attracting credible strategic partners to support the modernisation of VALCO and position it as the anchor smelter in Ghana’s integrated aluminium industry.

The Corporation urged the public, stakeholders and VALCO staff to disregard what it described as unfounded claims about the alleged sale.
It also cautioned individuals against making statements that could create disaffection and undermine efforts to industrialise Ghana’s aluminium value chain.
GIADEC assured the public that it will continue to provide verified information as the process to secure a strategic partner for VALCO progresses.
