Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has expressed strong confidence in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) ability to defeat New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a future election.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, January 3, Ayariga acknowledged the NPP’s recent internal democratic process and congratulated Bawumia on his successful election as the party’s flagbearer.
He noted the celebratory atmosphere among NPP members, who were dressed in white, and explained why he also wore white.
“Mr. Speaker, if you observe my friends on the other side, they were all in white today to celebrate the victory. I joined them in wearing white to celebrate as well. But the reason I wore white is because the Bawumia I know, NDC will beat him anytime in the day,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia, who secured 56.48 percent of the vote in the 2026 NPP presidential primaries, described his performance as an improvement over 2023 and emphasized the importance of party unity and teamwork ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Since the primaries, his residence in Tse Addo, Accra, has welcomed numerous supporters and party officials visiting to congratulate him and pledge their support.
