Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has led a delegation of government officials to visit the families of the victims who lost their lives during the stampede at El-Wak Stadium on November 12, 2025. The visit was aimed at offering condolences and support to the bereaved families ¹.

Genfi was accompanied by Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and other officials from the Ghana Armed Forces. They visited the home of 20-year-old Yvonne, one of the victims, and assured the family of President Mahama’s support.

The stampede claimed six lives and left 28 others injured, with five still in intensive care at the 37 Military Hospital. The Ghana Armed Forces has suspended recruitment activities in Accra and launched an investigation into the incident.

The government has promised to provide support to the affected families, with some MPs calling for automatic enlistment into the Armed Forces as a form of compensation. The incident has sparked widespread grief and renewed concerns about crowd control and safety management during large-scale national recruitment exercises.
