The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned of thunderstorms and rainfall across parts of southern Ghana, following the movement of a rainstorm system from the Gulf of Guinea.

In an update referencing its afternoon forecast, the Agency said a moderate rainstorm located offshore between Benin and Togo has already triggered rain-bearing clouds over the southeastern parts of the country.

According to the Agency, the system is currently producing localised thunderstorms and rainfall of varying intensity across the Volta Region, Eastern Region, and Greater Accra Region.

It further indicated that the weather system is expected to extend to additional areas within these regions before spreading later into parts of the Central Region and Ashanti Region.

The Agency cautioned that low-lying communities remain at risk of flooding as the rains persist, urging residents to take necessary precautions.

It also warned that the rainstorm is likely to be accompanied by strong winds, which could pose additional risks to life and property.
