he New Patriotic Party (NPP) convened an urgent gathering of the media at its national headquarters in Asylum Down to address what leadership describes as the targeted judicial and police harassment of its members. National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye addressed the assembly regarding the recent detention of Baba Amando and Abronye.
The NPP leadership asserts that the administration is utilizing state institutions to muzzle political speech while allowing its own members to circulate unverified claims without legal consequence.
Henry Nana Boakye criticized the judicial process overseen by Justice Joseph Kunsun at Circuit Court 9. The National Organizer argued that the court has deviated from its mandate as an impartial arbiter under Article 125 of the 1992 Constitution.
During the proceedings for Baba Amando the prosecution reportedly did not oppose the application for bail. Evidence suggests that the police had previously granted the accused bail during the initial 48 hour detention window.
NPP National Organizer contends that the presiding judge assumed a role traditionally reserved for the state prosecutor by asking leading questions to justify continued incarceration.
He abandoned his role as a neutral arbitrator under article 125 and assumed the role of a prosecutor just when the lawyers made strong arguments.Henry Nana Boakye , NPP National Organizer
The party remains aggrieved by the decision to remand Baba Amando until the 20th of the month. The executives maintain that the justification of protecting police investigations is a facade given that the authorities transported the accused from Sunyani to Accra without stating a need for further interrogation. The NPP describes the ruling as a predetermined political act.

The National Organizer further disclosed that this specific court has previously faced public scrutiny for references to historic dictatorships and literary allegories which the party finds beneath the dignity of the Ghanaian republic.
Institutional bias is a primary concern for the NPP as they observe the disparity in how the law is applied to different political groups. The party points to instances where high ranking government officials and their associates have been implicated in contract irregularities and the dissemination of false information.

NPP Slams Selective Justice, Questions ORAL Recovery Claims
The press briefing also focused on the lack of accountability for figures within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the government. General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong and Henry Nana Boakye highlighted the activities of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa regarding the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.
The NPP characterizes the findings of this initiative as unreliable and designed to mislead the public. They argued that if Baba Amando is facing arrest for publishing false news, then those who fed the nation inaccurate figures regarding the recovery of 21 billion cedis should face similar sanctions.
The NPP is demanding transparency regarding the 600 million Ghana cedis that the President claimed was retrieved during the last State of the Nation Address. Nana B emphasized that the current government has not given detailed accountability.
“Kwasi Botwe requested particular details of this 600 million Ghana cedis. The response was him to bring his Ghana card to Iroko. We want you personally. Hand over your card to Iroko boss. Can you imagine? We deserve to know the details and we are asking. A young man files an RTI and this is the response.”Henry Nana Boakye , NPP National Organizer
Leadership further addressed the conduct of security officials and the Inspector General of Police. The General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong sent a direct message to Mr. Kpokpo reminding him that while his appointment occurred under the previous administration his primary loyalty must remain with the state and the constitution.

The Lawyer and Politician also believes the government is capturing its members to distract the populace from pressing national issues and unfulfilled promises. The focus on LGBTQ+ discourse and the selective arrest of opposition activists are viewed as strategies to control the political narrative as the election cycle approaches.
The party executive accentuated that the current administration is in breach of its own code of conduct. They referenced the exposure of a 1million dollar contract and the arrogant response of state entities when questioned about these expenditures.
The NPP maintains that the Attorney General must apply the law consistently. If accusations made by their members are considered criminal then the lies churned out by government communicators regarding state fictitious recoveries must be met with the same level of police urgency.
The party concludes that the current environment is an attempt to suppress the opposition while shielding state critics from the consequences of their own administrative failures and ethical breaches.
