The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested 38 illegal miners during an intelligence-led operation at Ntronang, near New Abirem in the Eastern Region.
The suspects were apprehended while allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities on a palm plantation on the outskirts of the town.
According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP David Fianko Okyere, seventeen of the suspects are Burkinabe nationals, while twenty-one are Ghanaians.

The statement further disclosed that nine of the suspects are juveniles, aged between 13 and 17 years.
Exhibits retrieved at the site included water pumping machines, makeshift shelters, and water hoses, which were subsequently destroyed.
The suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, 2 March 2026.
