Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku says he has no “problem” with the Black Stars budget being made public but questions the rationale behind it when “there is no need for confusion”.
In February 2025, while speaking on the floor of Parliament during the State of the Nation Address, President John Mahama signaled an end to the era of “secrecy” regarding how much the government spends on national teams and charged the Sports Ministry to make budgets public.
Sector Minister Kofi Adams disclosed the government’s decision to slash the budget from $2 million to $1.3 million for the September 2025 World Cup qualifiers and is expected to make public the budget for the main competition, which kicks off on June 11, 2026.
“I don’t have any problem with making the Black Stars budget public,” Kurt told Asaase Radio.

“But why are we not asking every sector of the economy to make their budgets public, and why only Black Stars?
“Why create confusion where there’s no need for confusion? The GFA is a private entity.
“We dwell and waste our time on things which are needless.”
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will take on Panama on June 17 before subsequently battling England and Croatia in Group L.
Before that, the senior national team will face Austria on March 27 and, three days later, battle Germany before playing Mexico on May 22 as part of preparations for the global showpiece.
