Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has described the state of Ghana’s economy when the current administration took office as “in distress, weighed down by debts, weakened by mismanagement, and stripped of confidence”.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, Dr. Forson said government has since worked to stabilise the cedi and rekindle investor confidence.

“The theme for this budget draws from the President’s profound words in his 2025 State of the Nation Address,” the Finance Minister said. “President Mahama declared: ‘Today, inspired by the Almighty God, and propelled by the massive mandate given to me by the people of Ghana, I am moved to make a similar, purposeful, and bold declaration: I, John Dramani Mahama, will fix the economic crisis confronting the country and reset it on the path of growth and prosperity.’”

It is with that conviction, Dr. Forson noted, that the 2026 budget is being presented under the theme ‘Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation.’

Dr. Forson stressed that the government’s efforts have already begun to bear fruit, pointing to the stabilization of the cedi and improved investor confidence as early indicators of progress.
