Vice President Offers Condolences to El-Wak Stampede Victims’ Families.

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede that claimed six lives at the El-Wak Stadium during a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise. The incident, which occurred on November 12, 2025, also left several others injured, with five currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the 37 Military Hospital.

In a statement, Professor Opoku-Agyemang described the incident as “deeply heartbreaking” and extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, wishing the injured a speedy recovery. She urged Ghanaians to remain calm while authorities investigate the incident and called for comprehensive safety measures at national recruitment drives to prevent future tragedies.

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the suspension of military recruitment in Accra, and the Acting Defense Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has pledged a thorough investigation. The Ghana Armed Forces has also suspended the recruitment exercise to review safety protocols.
