Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has emphasized that the government’s flagship Adwumawura Programme is a comprehensive platform designed to build a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem. Speaking at the onboarding and orientation ceremony of the programme at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Legon, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the initiative goes beyond simply offering financial support and skills training.
The Adwumawura Programme provides a full package of support to empower young people to drive innovation, create jobs, and transform the nation’s economy. Beneficiaries will receive practical training in business planning, financial management, digital skills, customer service, and sustainability strategies. They will also be provided with mentorship, start-up kits, and access to markets and networks to help their ideas grow into viable and sustainable businesses.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reminded the participants that the programme’s success depends on their commitment, focus, discipline, honesty, and flexibility. “This programme is comprehensive. It will walk with you as you grow and scale your businesses. But what will make the difference is your commitment, your focus, your discipline, your honesty, and your flexibility,” she stated.
The Vice President noted that the 10,000 beneficiaries were carefully selected through a transparent process involving representatives from government, academia, the private sector, and development partners. “You are not here by chance. You were chosen because you demonstrated in potential, determination, and readiness to embrace the task ahead,” she said.
The Vice President cautioned that the entrepreneurial journey comes with challenges but encouraged participants to persevere. “No business, no matter how successful, is free from setbacks. What will set you apart is how you rise above them and continue to innovate regardless,” she stated.
She commended trainers, mentors, and stakeholders, including the National Youth Authority, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, the British Council, and the University of Ghana Business School, for their partnership in making the programme possible.
