Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of General Secretary of the NPP. In a heartfelt message addressed to “patriots” of the party on her birthday, the former legislator reflected on the challenges the NPP has faced since losing power, describing it as a period of self-introspection and rebuilding.
“A lot of water has passed under the bridge since our stormy face-off with ourselves and our base,” she wrote on her Facebook wall, acknowledging the bruises and battered egos that have emerged from the party’s internal struggles. However, she maintained confidence that, like the party’s founding spirit in Saltpond, the NPP’s resilience would guide its resurgence.
Madam Owusu-Ekuful likened the party’s current state to a phoenix rising from the ashes, emphasizing that the lessons learned from recent setbacks would shape and strengthen the NPP for the journey ahead. She called on party members to work together from the grassroots to the top to rebuild confidence and unity within the NPP, which she said was necessary to “boot out this accident-of-a-government.”
Turning her focus to the current government, she criticized the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing it as a “caretaker government” that gained power through “lies and lofty promises.” She urged party members to rally behind her bid to become the next NPP General Secretary, pledging to lead efforts toward reorganization and renewal as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
“On this day of my birth, Patriots, I come before you, the fighter you have always known,” she declared. “Nurtured, proven, and prepared, over the years, to join you on this collective journey to rescue our beloved country.” Madam Owusu-Ekuful concluded with a rallying cry: “Patriots, join me. Let us commit to the struggle, for I know with unity and God on our side, as well as the collective will of the Ghanaian people, we shall overcome
