A 40-year-old police officer, Sergeant Korankye Brown, stationed at Duayaw Nkwanta Police Station in the Ahafo Region, has died by suicide. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 4, 2025, while Brown was on duty at the charge office, where he allegedly used his service weapon to end his life. The exact cause of Brown’s action remains unclear, but preliminary reports suggest he was alone at the time.
Colleagues and residents are in shock over the tragic event, describing Brown as a calm and dedicated officer who had served the Duayaw Nkwanta area for several years. Brown was married to a nurse just three years ago, and the couple had one child together. Some reports, however, indicate he had two children.
The police administration has launched an investigation into the incident, and the body has been deposited at the Saint John of God Hospital in Duayaw Nkwanta for preservation and further examination. The community is mourning the loss of Sergeant Brown, with many expressing sadness over the incident.
This incident has sparked conversations about mental health support within Ghana’s law enforcement agencies, highlighting the need for robust support systems to ensure officers’ well-being.
