The Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Okwei Ian Tabalor, has strongly denied allegations made by the Tema Development Company (TDC) that he sold public land in Tema Community 5 to his wife for GHS2,000. According to TDC’s Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, the land was originally intended for a public toilet facility before being allegedly sold to Mr. Tabalor’s wife, and has since been retrieved after an internal investigation.

Mr. Tabalor, however, maintains the claims are false and unfair. He explained that his wife became aware of the plot through her brother, Caleb Kisei, a former TDC worker, who had a plot in the same area. His wife then applied for the plot through the proper channels and paid the required fee of GHS4,600. Mr. Tabalor emphasized that he had no involvement in the land allocation process, as his role at TDC was focused on events, meetings, and governmental relations, not land management.

The land allocation proposal was approved by Mr. Asare Darko, the former Estate Manager of TDC, who is still alive. Mr. Tabalor’s wife also obtained an ETA permit for the plot, which is located in the commercial enclave of Community 5 and measures 28 by 30 feet. Given his limited role and responsibilities at TDC, Mr. Tabalor finds the accusations baseless and unfair.
