The Chief Executive Officer of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to protecting and promoting Ghana’s shea sector. This comes as the country prepares to host the 2025 World Shea Expo, a pivotal event that will highlight the industry’s immense potential.

Dr. Okrah’s commitment to the shea sector was underscored during a courtesy call on the King of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty N-Dan Ya-Na Abukari II, in the Northern Region. The two leaders discussed strategic measures to strengthen the shea industry, focusing on community education and bushfire prevention. These initiatives aim to safeguard shea trees, which are vital for the livelihoods of people in northern Ghana.

The King has pledged to convene a durbar of chiefs and communities to mobilize grassroots support for protecting shea resources. Dr. Okrah expressed enthusiasm about the King’s commitment, stating that the partnership is expected to yield long-term benefits for farmers and processors. Additionally, Dr. Okrah met with the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sugri Muniry, to align local government efforts with TCDA’s broader vision for the shea sector.
