The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has shut down the Tamale Technical University Hospital due to serious safety and infection prevention lapses. The hospital was found to be operating with an expired license, violating the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829).
HeFRA’s inspection revealed healthcare services were being delivered in unsafe and unhygienic conditions. The agency had received intelligence reports, supported by video and photographic evidence, which were confirmed by a follow-up inspection. Key findings included safety violations, an expired HeFRA license, and a GH¢35,000 fine imposed on the hospital for regulatory breaches.
The hospital’s closure is effective November 7, 2025, and HeFRA has directed the hospital to regularize its licensing status and ensure the highest standards of safety before resuming operations. The agency remains committed to ensuring public safety through quality healthcare services.
