The Supreme Court has halted the Kpandai parliamentary rerun, which was scheduled for December 30, 2025. The decision was made after an application was filed by Matthew Nyindam, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, challenging the High Court’s ruling that annulled the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election in the constituency.
The Supreme Court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend all preparations and activities related to the rerun, pending the final determination of the case. The court has adjourned the matter to January 13, 2026, for further hearing.
Nyindam’s application argues that the High Court wrongly assumed jurisdiction over the election petition and that the proceedings were invalid from the outset. He is seeking to quash the High Court’s judgment and have the Supreme Court review the case.
The decision has been welcomed by the NPP, with party executives celebrating the news. The outcome is expected to have significant implications for the electoral calendar in the Kpandai constituency.
