Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has donated GH¢100,000 to support the victims of the tragic stampede that occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise. The incident claimed the lives of six young applicants and left several others injured.
Bagbin expressed deep concern over the tragedy, urging collective action to prevent similar incidents in the future. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Defence, emergency personnel, and ambulance services in responding to the tragedy.
The Ghana Armed Forces has instituted an investigation into the incident, and a board has been constituted to probe the circumstances surrounding the stampede. The government has assured the public that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilize the affected individuals and that arrangements are underway to notify the families of the deceased ² ³.
President John Mahama has also visited the victims at the 37 Military Hospital, expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
