The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced a landmark partnership with Qatar, where the Qatari government will invest $1.5 billion in Ghana’s food production sector by November 2025. Under this initiative, Qatar will secure and irrigate farmlands in Ghana, allocate them to farmers for large-scale cultivation, and purchase the produce for export to Qatar.
According to Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, this partnership aims to transform Ghana’s economy by boosting agricultural productivity and strengthening the export value chain. The initiative is expected to create over 2,500 direct jobs and position agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and job creation.
The Minister explained that Qatar’s lack of arable land to feed its population has driven this investment in Ghana’s agricultural sector. With German technical expertise on board, the project is set to kick-start implementation in November or December, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s agricultural development
