President John Mahama has taken swift action to restore peace in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region following renewed tensions between the Gonja and Brifor communities. After receiving a full briefing on the situation from the National Security Coordinator and the Minister for the Interior, President Mahama held a telephone conversation with the King of Gonja, Yagbonwura Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, while on a state visit to Singapore.
During the conversation, they discussed measures to end the clashes and foster lasting peace in the area. To de-escalate the situation, President Mahama has dispatched a government delegation led by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, to engage with the Yagbonwura and other key stakeholders.
Restoring Calm and Order
The President has reinforced security in the conflict zone by deploying additional police and military personnel. He has urged all parties to support the peace initiatives, emphasizing the importance of dialogue in resolving outstanding disputes.
The government delegation has been directed to work closely with the Regional Security Council, traditional authorities, and community leaders to ensure calm is restored and law and order upheld. With these efforts, President Mahama aims to bring peace and stability to the Savannah Region
