President John Dramani Mahama has officially broken ground for a modern poultry, meat, and feed processing plant in Bechem, Ahafo Region. The facility is part of the government’s flagship poultry revitalization program, the Nkoko Nketenketen Project, aimed at boosting Ghana’s agricultural sector and promoting local production.
The plant will slaughter 3,000 birds daily and is expected to be completed in 12 months. It will serve as a central processing and training hub, promoting regional integration in poultry and livestock value chains. The facility will include a modern feed processing plant, a hygienic meat processing unit, cold storage, and dry warehouses, as well as a training academy for young farmers and technical personnel.
President Mahama emphasized that the project is a vital pillar in Ghana’s national agenda to reset the economy, industrialize agriculture, and strengthen food security. Similar processing plants are planned for other parts of the country to support increased poultry production.
The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, stated that the facility will have a component that will treat waste from the factory into feed for fisheries and poultry, and fertilizers for farmers. The project is expected to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported poultry products.
