Ghanaian champions Police Ladies have made it to the semifinals of the ongoing WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers after a thrilling 3-1 victory over ASKO in their final Group B match.
The team finished second in Group B, with Deborah Afriyie scoring twice and Sophia Agyakwaa adding a stunning long-range strike to seal the win.
The match saw Police Ladies take an early lead when Deborah Afriyie scored after just 8 minutes, capitalizing on a defensive error by ASKO. Sophia Agyakwaa then doubled the lead with a spectacular strike from distance in the 13th minute. ASKO pulled one back from the penalty spot after a foul in the 18-yard box, but Deborah completed her brace with an acrobatic overhead kick, restoring Police Ladies’ two-goal lead.
The result, coupled with Bayelsa Queens’ win over Sam Nelly, meant the Ghanaian side booked a place in the last four of the competition. Police Ladies will now face host team ASEC Mimosas in the semifinals, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2.
