The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has condemned the “barbaric” assault on a member and a female client at the premises of e-PRIDE Chemist located at Burma Camp in Accra by a non-uniformed officer of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) seen in a viral video.
The officer, identified as Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams, was captured on video attacking the victims in what the Society has described as a “barbaric, reprehensible, and utterly unacceptable act of violence.”
According to a press release issued on Thursday, October 30, a delegation from the association had visited e-PRIDE Chemist to verify reports and to offer direct support to the pharmacy’s care team.
“The Society unequivocally condemns this barbaric, reprehensible, and utterly unacceptable act of violence perpetrated against pharmacy personnel and a client. Such conduct not only violates the fundamental human rights and dignity of the victims but also constitutes a grave affront to public trust and the sanctity of healthcare spaces,” the statement noted. The society assured the affected staff and client of its full backing and commitment to ensuring that justice is served, and stressed that community pharmacy personnel are frontline healthcare providers who work tirelessly to ensure public access to essential medicines and care.
It warned that any attack on pharmacy professionals is an attack on public health and the safety of every Ghanaian who relies on their services.
The society also extended its empathy and solidarity to the victims of the assault, pledging to provide both psychological and professional support to help them recover from the traumatic experience.
The PSGH also called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident, ensuring that justice is delivered swiftly and in accordance with the law.
“We implore the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to pursue this matter to its logical conclusion, ensuring that justice is served swiftly and transparently. The Society will closely follow this case until the full weight of the law is brought to bear on the perpetrator.” the statement added.
At the same time, the Society commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their prompt intervention and the arrest of the suspect, noting that the response demonstrates a strong institutional commitment to discipline and professionalism.
