The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to present the Bawku Peace Mediation Report to President John Dramani Mahama today, December 16, 2025, at the Jubilee House. This follows months of intensive mediation efforts led by Otumfuo, aimed at resolving the long-standing chieftaincy dispute in Bawku, which has fueled recurring violence in the area.
The mediation process, which began in April 2025, involved separate consultations with representatives of the rival factions, including the Kusasis and Mamprusis, to foster dialogue and build mutual trust. Although the talks experienced a brief pause, they resumed in May 2025, contributing to a period of relative calm in the previously volatile region.
The report to be presented to President Mahama is expected to highlight progress made, outline key challenges, and offer recommendations to guide the next phase of government intervention towards achieving sustainable peace in Bawku. The Ghana Armed Forces have reinforced security presence in the area to maintain law and order as mediation efforts continue.
