The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has vowed to retaliate against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the arrest and prosecution of NPP-affiliated members. Speaking outside the Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday, September 9, after Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, was remanded, Mustapha declared: “Power has an end, the tables will turn, and we will all have our revenge.”
Abronye was remanded into police custody on Tuesday and is expected to reappear in court on Friday, September 12. The Ghana Police Service confirmed his arrest on Monday, September 8, citing “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.” The police have not disclosed full details of the conduct that led to his arrest, but the case has drawn national attention due to Abronye’s high political profile as Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP.

Abronye’s arrest comes shortly after he filed for political asylum in eight countries—the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, and Côte d’Ivoire—alleging political persecution and threats to his life. He accused the government of using state security agencies to target him and other opposition members. As part of their investigations, police also searched the home of former NPP Youth Organiser Moses Abor on Sunday but did not find Abronye there at the time.
Abronye’s lawyer, Daniel Martey, expressed shock over the court’s decision to remand his client over a misdemeanor. “The accused person was arraigned before the court, and it appears the prosecution just wanted him to be remanded. For whatever reason, you gave us an invite, we have responded to the invite, and the charges leveled against my client in court were just misdemeanors, and in law, you will know that there are categories of offenses, and misdemeanor is the basic one, and that shouldn’t be the basis why an accused person should be remanded,” he said
