The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a stern warning to headteachers across the country, cautioning them against charging unapproved fees and denying admission to students placed in their institutions through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). Speaking at the 32nd Annual Conference of Directors of Education in Sunyani, Mr. Iddrisu expressed deep concern over reports of headteachers frustrating the enrollment process for first-year students and extorting money from parents and guardians.
Such behavior is completely unacceptable and undermines the government’s mission to deliver free and quality education to every Ghanaian child. The Minister emphasized that students placed in schools through CSSPS must be admitted without discrimination or extra financial demands beyond approved fees. He warned that headteachers who deny admission or demand unapproved fees will face strict disciplinary action, including administrative and legal procedures.
The Ministry is committed to discipline, transparency, and fairness in the education sector. Directors of Education are urged to intensify monitoring and ensure strict compliance with Ministry directives to facilitate a smooth enrollment process. Every child deserves access to education without barriers, and the Minister emphasized that the government will not compromise on this principle.
