Constitutional lawyer Inusah Fuseini has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, a dedicated public servant and member of the National Democratic Congress. Muhammed, who served as a Member of Parliament, tragically lost his life, and his passing has been felt deeply by the party and his constituents.

Fuseini described Muhammed’s passing as a significant loss to the NDC and his constituents, expressing confidence that the legislator would have achieved far more for his people if he were still alive. “I have no doubt that if Muntala was alive, he would’ve done a lot of things for his constituency. He had a lot of life, he had a lot of opportunities ahead of him. But God’s creation takes its course,” he said. The tragedy left Fuseini personally vulnerable, but he noted that he has found peace in the ongoing preparations to find a successor. “My mind is vulnerable a lot, but since God has taken him, the steps in the preparations are good. I am at peace personally,” he added.

The responsibility now rests on the shoulders of Professor Seidu Mahama Alidu, who emerged victorious in the NDC primary to replace the late lawmaker. Prof. Alidu, former Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana and current Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission, won decisively with 840 votes, far ahead of his closest contender, former Tamale MCE Abdul Hannan Gundado, who secured 536 votes out of approximately 1,511 valid ballots cast. One ballot was rejected. The landslide underscores Prof. Alidu’s commanding support within the party base, positioning him as the new torchbearer to continue the development agenda initiated by the late Ibrahim Muntala Mohammed.

Fuseini emphasized that the responsibility now rests on delegates to choose a candidate who can carry on the late MP’s work and vision, but this responsibility has now been fulfilled with Prof. Alidu’s victory. With his landslide win, Prof. Alidu is poised to continue the development agenda initiated by the late MP, ensuring his legacy lives on. Muhammed’s dedication to public service and his commitment to the betterment of his constituents will be remembered for generations to come.
