The National Security has issued a stern warning to chiefs, politicians, and opinion leaders in the Eastern Region to refrain from interfering with the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat’s (NAIMOS) activities. The warning was delivered by the Eastern Regional National Security Liaison Officer, Francis Annor Dompreh, during a press conference on Monday, October 13.
Mr. Annor Dompreh emphasized that NAIMOS, established by the President, has a clear directive to protect Ghana’s waters and forests. The order from the Presidency is straightforward: cease all illegal mining activities and protect Ghana’s natural resources. He cautioned that any traditional leader or politician attempting to intervene on behalf of individuals arrested for illegal mining will face arrest and prosecution.
“We don’t know any chief. We don’t know anybody. What we know is that this is the order: Get out!” Mr. Annor Dompreh stated, adding that those found engaging in illegal mining will be dealt with, and those who attempt to intervene will face arrest and prosecution. He urged chiefs and individuals involved in illegal mining to pack their machines and leave the affected areas, warning that they will not be allowed to return.
The National Security Liaison Officer reiterated that the directive from the Presidency must be respected by all stakeholders, regardless of social or political status. NAIMOS is a special-purpose unit mandated to coordinate, monitor, and lead intelligence-driven field operations against illegal mining across Ghana. The government is determined to protect the country’s natural resources and ensure a sustainable future.
