A demolition exercise by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) aimed at clearing buildings near the Kpeshie Lagoon to reduce flooding has left many residents homeless and jobless. The exercise, which began earlier this week, targeted structures along Teshie Bushroad, destroying homes, shops, kiosks, and workplaces, including carpentry shops, mechanic garages, and car garages.

Affected residents claim they were not expecting their businesses to be demolished, as announcements only mentioned buildings. They also reported that soldiers were present during the demolition, allowing them to retrieve some belongings but not all.
A mechanic lamented the destruction of his expensive spraying machine, while others said their homes were demolished despite not being demarcated for destruction. Some residents had newly built or were still constructing their homes, which are now in ruins.

The affected residents are calling for assistance, expressing their distress over the loss of their livelihoods and homes.
