Ghana’s mobile money ecosystem has witnessed significant growth, with the total value of transactions reaching GH¢3.6 trillion in the first 10 months of 2025, ending October. This represents a substantial increase from GH¢2.368 trillion recorded in the same period in 2024 and GH¢1.367 trillion in 2023.
According to the Bank of Ghana’s latest Economic and Financial Data, the growth is attributed to increased adoption of mobile money for payments, with more institutions now accepting it as a mode of payment. The number of registered mobile money accounts stood at 79.1 million, with 25.3 million active users, and the sector employs about 949,000 registered agents.
The report also highlights strong month-on-month growth, with September’s transactions recorded at GH¢406 billion, rising to GH¢436 billion in October. Additionally, GH¢40 billion was transferred across platforms through mobile money interoperability during the same period.
