Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the Judiciary of political bias following the Tamale High Court’s decision to annul the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai Constituency. Afenyo-Markin described the ruling as “shameful” and “legally unsound,” alleging that the judges were acting on behalf of their political “paymasters.
He questioned the transparency of the judicial process, pointing out that the NDC had prior knowledge of the court’s decision before it was officially announced. Afenyo-Markin also criticized the court for delivering the ruling without written reasons, factual findings, or legal analysis.
The Minority Leader warned that the judiciary’s actions could threaten Ghana’s peace and stability, stating, “The judiciary must know that their actions and inactions to serve the interests of whoever their paymaster is have the tendency of destroying our peaceful republic.
The court had ordered a rerun of the election within 30 days, citing irregularities in the December 7, 2024, polls. The Minority has vowed to challenge the decision and prevent the incumbent MP, Matthew Nyindam, from being barred from representing his constituents.
