The Minority in Parliament is calling for the suspension of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie’s confirmation as Chief Justice, citing ongoing legal challenges related to the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. The Minority argues that proceeding with the confirmation would undermine judicial ethics and erode public trust in the judiciary.

The legal challenges include seven court cases contesting Torkornoo’s removal, with the Attorney-General accused of failing to file defenses. Baffoe-Bonnie, who is currently Acting Chief Justice, is also accused of having a conflict of interest, having presided over the Supreme Court panel that declined to halt Torkornoo’s removal.

The Minority has filed a motion at the Speaker’s office, urging Parliament to halt the vetting and approval process until the courts resolve the pending cases. They also demand that the Attorney-General brief Parliament on the litigation and its implications for the office of the Chief Justice.
