The Ministry of Education has denied claims circulating on social media that the Senior High School (SHS) placement system is based on a fixed aggregate score system. A widely shared flyer suggested that specific aggregate ranges determine student placements into various categories of second-cycle institutions.
In a statement signed by Deputy Education Minister, Dr. Clement Apaak, the Ministry labeled the information as misleading and inaccurate. The placement process is more complex, considering factors such as aggregate and raw scores, availability of vacancies in schools, and program popularity.
The Ministry emphasized that limited vacancies and high competition can significantly influence placement outcomes. It also addressed concerns about alleged corrupt practices, stating that no payment, bribe, or inducement is required or solicited for securing a placement.
The Ministry urged the public to report incidents of bribery or extortion related to student placements to the nearest police station and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring merit-based placements. Parents, students, and stakeholders are advised to disregard the false information and rely only on official communications from the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, and TVET services.
