MDC Cracks Down on Quack Doctors and Unregulated Practitioners

The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) of Ghana has launched a crackdown on unqualified medical practitioners, arresting four quack doctors and 28 other practitioners who failed to undergo proper documentation. The operation aimed to sanitize the healthcare system and guarantee safety and security.

The arrested individuals include Kate Baidoo, operating without registration at the Osag Medical Centre, Nsakena; Ebenezer Sarpong, practising medicine contrary to law at Goodcare Medical Centre, Swalaba Bukom; Innocent Tagbovi, previously arrested in 2017, found practising unlawfully at Mighty Clinic, Madina; and Ebenezer Koomson, practising medicine without passing the Council’s licentiate examination at E & E Medical Centre, Gomoa Afransi.

The MDC’s Registrar and CEO, Dr. Divine N. Banyubala, emphasized the council’s commitment to ensuring only qualified professionals operate in the healthcare sector. The council appeals for public support in providing useful information to aid in its efforts. Dr. Banyubala stated that the move is aimed at sanitizing the healthcare system to guarantee safety and security.

Regarding herbal practitioners and their use of PhD titles, Dr. Banyubala stressed the importance of working diligently and sharing pride in their work, as Ghana is known for its use of herbs across Africa. He noted that the MDC will ensure only authorized practitioners operate in the medical profession space, while GTEC will handle PhD titles.

The MDC’s operation highlights the importance of public safety and the need for proper regulation in the healthcare sector. The council’s efforts aim to protect patients from unqualified practitioners and ensure that only licensed professionals provide medical services.
