Liverpool FC have officially confirmed that long-serving left-back Andy Robertson will leave the club at the end of the 2025–26 season, bringing an end to a glittering nine-year spell at Anfield.
The Scotland captain is set to depart upon the expiration of his contract this summer, closing the curtain on a career that has firmly cemented his place among the club’s modern greats.
A statement released by the club broke the news and read, “We can confirm Andy Robertson will bring his Reds career to an end at the conclusion of the current season. He will do so as a Liverpool legend”
Since arriving from Hull City in 2017, Robertson has developed into one of the most influential full-backs in world football, playing a central role in Liverpool’s domestic and European success.
He leaves behind a remarkable legacy, having made 373 appearances for the Reds to date. Over that period, he has been a cornerstone of the team’s resurgence particular under manager Jürgen Klopp’s era, combining relentless energy, defensive discipline, and attacking output to redefine the role of a modern left-back.
Andy Robertson said he has fond memories of Liverpool and does not ever rue the decision to join the club in 2017.
“I’ll always look back on amazing memories at this football club, I’ve put my heart and soul into the club for nine years and I’ve not got many regrets.”

A Key Figure in Liverpool’s Golden Era

On the European stage, he played a vital role in the club’s success in the UEFA Champions League, helping them regain the European crown in 2019, further cementing his importance when the stakes are high.
His honours list also includes the FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Community Shield, reflecting Liverpool’s dominance across multiple competitions during his tenure.

Beyond the trophies, Robertson’s consistency and leadership have stood out. Appointed Scotland captain during his Liverpool career, he has brought those leadership qualities back to Merseyside, often serving as a “vocal presence both on and off the pitch”.
His partnership on the left flank, particularly during Liverpool’s peak years, became a defining feature of Klopp’s system. Known for his tireless overlapping runs and pinpoint deliveries, Robertson contributed significantly in attack while maintaining defensive reliability.
Focus Remains on Strong Finish
Despite the announcement, Liverpool have made it clear that any “formal farewell” will be postponed “until the end of the campaign”. With crucial fixtures still ahead, Robertson remains fully committed to helping the team finish the 2025–26 season on a high.
The club emphasized that celebrations of his contribution will come in “due course”, with the immediate priority being collective success on the pitch. Robertson himself is understood to be focused solely on ensuring his final months in a Liverpool shirt end with further silverware.
His departure signals the end of an era for Liverpool, as one of the most consistent performers of the Klopp era prepares to move on. As the season approaches its conclusion, attention will gradually turn to how Liverpool plan to reshape their squad. However, for now, the spotlight remains on Robertson’s final chapter at Anfield.
When the curtain eventually falls, he will leave as more than just a decorated player. He departs as a symbol of Liverpool’s resurgence, a leader in the dressing room, and a player whose influence helped restore the club to the pinnacle of English and European football.
