KGL Foundation’s Millennium Marathon Celebrates 5th Anniversary with Record-Breaking. Turnout

The 2025 KGL Foundation’s Millennium Marathon has recorded a historic turnout, with Kenyan athletes dominating the 21km race in both men’s and women’s categories. The event, which included a 21km long race and a 5km short race for men and women, was contested by athletes from Ghana and top long-distance runners from other parts of Africa.

Kenya’s athletes maintained their reputation as the best long-distance runners, finishing first to third in both categories of the 21km race. Gilbert Kiprotich grabbed gold with a time of 1:00:59, while his compatriots Alfred Cherunoi and Paul Eyanae finished second and third with times of 1:01:04 and 1:02:12, respectively. In the women’s category, Hympha Kiteta placed first with a time of 1:07:42, followed by Lucy Ndambuki and Eupke Muchiri with times of 1:10:25 and 1:13:00, respectively.

Ghanaian athletes dominated the 5km race, taking the top three spots in both men’s and women’s categories. Abotsi Daniel Gawuga, Emmanuel Kwatey, and Germain K. Dzorgbesi finished first, second, and third in the men’s category, while Anai Jennifer, Tuolong Rener, and Bramah Rabiatu grabbed gold, silver, and bronze in the women’s category.

The marathon served as a mega event to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the KGL Foundation, the CSR arm of the KGL Group. CEO Elliot Dadey expressed his delight at the success of the marathon, saying, “To be honest, it’s been an amazing journey. I think we started from nothing really and then eventually we kind of started expanding. Currently, we are now working in every single region of the country.” He added that the event exceeded his expectations, drawing a huge crowd and showcasing the foundation’s impact.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, lauded the efforts of the KGL Foundation and assured participants of a much bigger event in the coming years. The winners of the various events were awarded trophies and cash prizes from the KGL Foundation.
